This friday (October 3rd),  Penryn-based writing agency Stranger Collective will be putting on RAFT, an event that boasts inspiring speakers, classy cocktails courtesy of Sipsmith and, we are excited to announce, that we will be there providing tasty seaweed nibbles for all in attendance.

RAFT begins on a boat meandering through the beautiful coastline around  the Falmouth area, but attendees will be back on dry land by the evening to listen to the many interesting speakers and participate in an off-the-wall Bullshit Tour (Bullshit London) of Falmouth town, which is like a normal city tour but the facts are replaced with hilarious fantasy.

Stuart Nolan, a ‘research magician’, is discussing imagination and how we might measure it. Stuart has a stronger scientific background than most magicians, pulling examples and anecdotes from cellular biology to computer programming from his black top hat. Since 2002, when he was awarded a NESTA fellowship Stuart has been collaborating with others to enliven their field with the wonders of performance magic.

Kyra Maya Phillips is a writer and alternative innovation strategist that will be speaking at RAFT. Kyra will be expanding on the ideas illuminated in her recent book Misfit Economy (written with Alexa Clay) in which she examines the crooked workings of pirates, terrorists and black markets to see what we can learn from those who work under different constraints.

We can’t tell you where this raft might take you, but if you fancy an event with fantastic food and drink and a whole day of door-opening conversations we suggest you climb on board.
